Celebrating National Rosé Day in a Small Way

Every year, Jen and I like to throw a massive Rosé wine tasting party in honor of National Rosé Day, which falls on the second Saturday of every June. We buy up every possible Rosé released in Woodinville that year and open nearly everything up for 30-40 guests from our local wine industry.

This year, of course, National Rosé Day fell during the pandemic, when we all were carefully isolating and quarantining at home. No big party for us. We still stocked up on local Woodinville Rosé wines anyways, planning to slowly enjoy them with neighbors and in small weekly parties of just three or four guests throughout the summer.

Jen and I decided since things were slowly opening back up, it would be safe to get together (carefully) in my spacious backyard and just enjoy Rosé and some treats and catch up on months of gossip and socializing.

I was excited to show her the Rosé gazebo I’d created using faux flower garlands and my beloved comfy chaise lounge. My rhododendrons (I have a pink one and a red one) participated in the festivities by blooming just in time.

We cracked open five or six bottles of Rosé to taste through and share our comments on. I keep a stash of little rubber wine corks to use to send guests home with opened bottles of wine in their trunks.

After all my work to decorate the yard and Jen’s work setting up fancy foods for us to enjoy, it did start to rain a little bit. We had to laugh! Typical Seattle area summertime!

We feasted on cherries, cookies, cheese and crackers, and took turns lounging.

Well, at least the cherries were a healthy option! And with only 2 guests instead of 30 to 40, party supply shopping and food setup was certainly far less time consuming. (I’m trying to stay positive all through this!)

Jen’s favorite Rosé at this time turned out to be the Patterson Cellars; and I was quite impressed with Chateau Ste. Michelle’s limited edition Kentucky Derby Rosé.

After Jen went home, I lounged some more in my Rosé wine garden! I plan to leave it up for a couple of months (if my faux flowers can handle being in the sun, occasional wind and a bit of rain now and then). I’m looking forward to reading some “beach reads” books on this while sipping Woodinville wine in the evenings to come.

Cheers, and happy National Rosé Day! Please let us know in the comments below, which is your favorite Rosé from Woodinville or from Washington State?
