After a long day of running around exploring Woodinville’s warehouse district tasting rooms, my friend Valerie and I suddenly became ravenous. She’d never been to the Cut Shop, but had read some of my articles about our meals there and was eager to check it out.
We got there early enough on a Saturday night to snag two barstools – great for people-watching. We particularly enjoyed turning to look at the door any time anybody came in, to see if they flinched when they saw Windy the Clown.
Valerie and I were both intrigued by a cocktail called “The Swingin’ Beets.” It was refreshing and delicious, and a nice change from the wine we’d been tasting all day. (I’m not complaining!)
I finally worked up the courage to order the $27 relish tray. Now that I see all it comes with (and we weren’t quite able to finish everything on the tray, what with ordering heavy meals too) it makes more sense. You get mushrooms, pickled green beans, two kinds of olives, pickled onions, gherkins, four deviled eggs, and a nice sized portion of the Cut Shop’s famous pimento cheese, plus crackers to go with it. We’d almost ordered the deviled eggs and pimento separately anyway, so for a few more bucks we also got pickled goodness to feast on too.
Valerie ordered the chili – I have been so curious to find out what it’s like, and my boyfriend never got around to ordering it yet. It comes on top of a bed of rice, and Valerie said it was absolutely delicious and she’d order it again.
This was my second time ordering the mushroom stroganoff. I figured I needed the pasta to soak up all that wine and the cocktail.
As the early evening wore on, the bar started getting busier, but the bartenders kept their cool.
We got to meet Megan, one of the owners, after complimenting her on her groovy outfit. She joked that she designed the Cut Shop’s interior around her wardrobe style!
Owner and errant child wrangler Gabe was looking snazzy in a vest and retro collared shirt.
The Cut Shop is open til midnight – a rarity in Woodinville. They have a happy hour from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays. And if you’re ever hankering for a nice post-wine-tasting dinner (or pre-wine-tasting snacks and pickled delights) head on over!
