Sipping Delicious Wine at Sol Stone Winery on a Sunday Afternoon with Zoe

One of the social goals that I have for the remainder of 2018 is to make it to the warehouse district more frequently for Woodinville wine tasting. On a recent Sunday afternoon, I was able to visit Sol Stone Winery with my good friend Zoe. We had a fabulous time!

Sol Stone Winery opened in 2011 and is produced at a converted building on owners Buzz and Karen Buckingham’s property in Sammamish, Wa. Karen and Buzz are strong believers in giving back, which I love. Karen is one of the founders of the WAVE foundation that support domestic violence survivors. Proceeds from their wine also go to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Foundation. This is a dog friendly establishment, and you may find Digby the winery dog (who was adopted after adorably flunking out of blind dog school) wagging his friendly tail at you when you arrive.

Right from the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and relaxed.  The laid back and friendly vibe was super inviting, thanks to tasting room manager, Colleen.

The first two wines we tasted were Burgundy varietals. The 2016 Chardonnay is sourced from Stillwater Creek Vineyard and is a top pick from Washington Tasting Room Magazine.  Zoe and I picked up notes of pineapple, and citrus and tasted honey and melon.  Delicious and crisp! Next up was the Viognier, a delicious vintage in which we picked up hints of honeysuckle and rose Water.

Buzzard’s blend is Sol Stone’s restaurant wine, with such a great label!  Only 1500 cases of this were made at their Sammamish production facility. It is an earthy, Bordeaux blend and as Colleen described, very “old world”.

Here is Zoe with a 2015 Grenache. This red is a very food-friendly wine that she thought would be perfect served with strawberry and goat cheese tarts or grilled fish, such as salmon.

The award winning 2015 Stoners Red was on our tasting menu today as well!  This wine club exclusive was smooth and delicious; a peppery 80% Syrah/20% Grenache blend with notes of blueberries, cherry and a hint of spice. Check out more information on Sol Stone’s Stoners Club to learn more about the offerings!

I loved it inside Sol Stone Winery, and hope that you too make a trip to taste their wines! It is a large space perfect for winemaker dinners, parties and events. You can check out their venue rental page here for more information.

Mark your calendars! Every Sunday afternoon they host live music and their patio is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day!
