Last week we visited Woodinville’s DeLille Cellars Carriage House and enjoyed an impressive array of limited production wines. Executive winemaker Chris Upchurch and winemaker Jason Gorski have crafted a lineup of classic French Bordeaux style blends, focused on the Red Mountain AVA with grapes sourced from Washington’s leading vineyards.
We were so excited when we learned that we would be able to enjoy our tasting on the gorgeous wine club deck! From the parking lot, it was hard to tell just how grand this space is.
Inside, there is an array of plush chairs, wine barrel tables, and sofas for wine club members to enjoy as they sip DeLille Cellars’ highly acclaimed wine.
Here is a view from inside the wine club deck. In warmer weather, the side awnings are removed to let guests converse and enjoy drinking DeLille Cellars wines in the open air. You can see the bustle of Woodinville’s Hollywood District in the background. The Carriage House tasting room is located about 1/4 mile north of the DeLille Chateau.
DeLille offers two white wines, as well as a Rose, in additional to their red lineup. Here you see the Chaleur Blanc, which is a complex and flavorful vintage. The bouquet held notes of grapefruit, vanilla, white pepper and carmelized pineapple. This blend of Sauvignon Blanc (73%) and Semillon (27%) has notes of pineapple upside down cake, apple crisp and honey.
The 2014 Merlot is sourced from Yakima Valley and blended from the Red Willow, DuBrul, Klipsun and Upchurch vineyards. I thought the merlot was delicious and tasted notes of cherries, and citrus.
Comfy seating is available on the wine club deck for club members throughout the year. The heated space kept us warm and dry on a very wet and wintry afternoon.
Here we are, raising our glasses of 2014 Four Flags Cabernet Sauvignon. This was our special pour of the day. It is blended from four Red Mountain AVA vineyards; 42% from Grand Ciel, 31% Upchurch, 19% Ciel du Cheval, and 8% from Klipsun. The bouquet was a blend of cassis, violets and Herbs de Provence. I picked up notes of fresh plums, blueberries and spice.
DeLille’s 2014 Grand Ciel Syrah received 94 points from Vinous and was one of my favorites of the day. This wine has a rich bouquet of smoked meat, violet, plum, blackberry, blueberry, licorice and spice aromas. The palate was rich with flavors of plum, blueberry, cocoa, licorice and spice.
Pictured here is the covered patio that is open to all guests of the tasting room. I can’t wait to return to Woodinville in the Spring and Summer, when colorful umbrellas are set up!
Inside the tasting room, you can find a generous selection of wine themed gifts. I was especially fond of these wine purses! I think they could be perfect for toting to an outdoor concert or picnic.
Visit the Carriage House, where you can enter to win this large bottle of D2. We had the opportunity to taste the 2015 D2 and both of us left with bottles to bring home! This blend is very enjoyable and balanced, blending Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a hint of Petit Verdot.
Keri, DeLille’s Director of Marketing and Events, shared so much information with us about DeLille Cellars wines and their wine club. It was a pleasure speaking with her and learning more about the history behind DeLille’s winemaking. There are three wine club options available, with specially crafted vintages available to members only. For more info on joining the wine club, click here.
